Multiple Teams · Track & Field: Sumter Optimist Relays


The Timberwolves Track & Field teams competed in the Sumter Optimist Relays meet on Saturday versus Sumter, Wilson, Thomas Sumter, Crestwood, and Richland One Middle College. More than 25 athletes walked away with medals, as well as several first place finishes.


The girl’s team was crowned meet champions after scoring 138 total points. The 4×1600-meter relay team of Haley Cole, Brwanwyn Koellner, Kaliyah Clary, and Alaina Monaco broke the school by 23 seconds with a time of 25:13.70. The Sprint Medley record was reset from a year ago by Kayla Bryant, Kaniya Johnson, Shia-La Chaplin, and Rhone’ Allen with a time of 1:55.29. The 4×100, 4×400, and 4×800 teams each claimed first place. The Timberwolf girls owned each of the field events. The discuss team of Destiny Gill and Javaria Rice and shot put team of Morgan King and Javaria Rice claimed first place finishes. Khyra Stawder and Shia-La Chaplin teamed up for a first place finish in the long jump. The pole vault team of Haley Cole and Alaina Monaco and the triple jump team of Khyra Strawder and Kelli Eichelberger finished in second places.

The boy’s team finished third overall in Saturday’s standings. The JV 4×100-meter relay team of Donaven Johnson, Murray Newell, JaMias Holloway, and Darius Jones led the sprinters with its only first place finish of day. Hector Cepeda, joe Garey, Justin Cole, and Murray Newell also claimed a first place finish in the Distance Medley Relay. The field events were led by the team of Issac Nusbaum and Micah Cantwell with a combined height of 18-6 to win first in the pole vault. Douglas Summers threw a season best of 119-0 in the discuss throw.
