The White Knoll Track and Field Team is sending several athletes to the State Track Meet following Monday’s conclusion of the State Qualifier Meet. Two events from Saturday’s meet had been postponed due to thunderstorms. Kaniya Johnson, already the school record holder in the 100, 200 and 400m dashes, qualified in those events and then anchored the 4x400m relay (pictured) to a state-qualifying and school record-breaking time. Other members of the relay team are Shia-La Chaplin, Alaina Monaco and Kaliyah Clary with alternates, Kayla Bryant and Bryanna Thompson. Also qualifying for the State Meet is TJ Peebles, who won his heat of the 400m hurdles.
Over 20 Timberwolves had advanced to the State Qualifier from the Region Meet last week. Jajuan Johnson, the school record holder in the triple jump, finished in 10th place overall. Long Jump Region Champion, Shia-La Chaplin was 15th in that event. David Kinard finished in 15th place in the shot put and is now #3 all time at WKHS. Alaina Monaco set a new school record in the 800m. Luke Martin was 15th in the 400m hurdles and TJ Peebles was 14th in the 110 hurdles.
Others competing at the State Qualifier were the girls 4x100m relay team of Kayla Bryant, Shay Leone, Savannah Gunter and Cori Davis, with Chezney Crosby as the alternate. The boys 4x400m relay team consisted of Kennedy Brown, Landon Martin, Xavier Herriot-White and Luke Martin, with Kameryn Johnson as the alternate. Also competing in the throws were Nick Taiste in the shot put, Javaria Rice in the discus and Morgan King in the shot put and discus.
White Knoll athletes will be competing at the State Meet at Spring Valley High School the morning of Saturday, May 11th.
