Timberwolves defeated Ashley Ridge 3-1 on Friday thanks to a walk-off home run. The game was tied at one with Timberwolves batting in the bottom of the ninth when Hannah Goodwin homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Andrea Lyon struck out eight, while Katie Freeman sat down five.
Timberwolves got things started in the second inning. Lyon hit a solo homer.
Ashley Ridge knotted the game up at one in the top of the fourth inning, when Destiny Brown singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Lyon got the win for Timberwolves. She allowed six hits and one run over nine innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Freeman took the loss for Ashley Ridge. She allowed three hits and two runs over eight innings, striking out five.
Timberwolves socked two home runs on the day. Lyon went yard in the second inning. Goodwin had a dinger in the ninth inning. Goodwin’s homerun tied the single season record for homeruns at White Knoll when she hit her 13th on the year.
Goodwin, Lyon, and Libby Williams each managed one hit to lead Timberwolves.
Timberwolves win the Lower State Championship and will have a rematch with Byrnes for the State Championship starting Monday at White Knoll.
